Elevate students embody passion and perseverance towards academic and professional success. They inspire us to keep going, keep moving, and to believe in something bigger. These are their stories.
“One day in Elevate we learned about addiction and drug use. That day was very emotional because I thought about my mom’s drug use and addiction. Growing up, it hurt that I didn’t have a childhood like other kids had. I have seen things that a kid shouldn’t see. It made me tear up in class thinking about what drugs could do. After that, the Teacher-Mentor’s have helped me day to day to keep my head up and strong. They always found a way to keep me going.”
“For me, many great things come from taking Elevate, and not just from learning the character qualities and life skills. To be honest, most of what I learned has made me realized that not every tachers is in it for the money. The Elevate teachers take time out of their busy schedules to talk to us. Having the opportunity to teach was amazing. That experience taught me to have patience, not only with myself but with others. There’s so much to tell, but overall, I’m happy my school has Elevate. It was changed me for the better.”
“Elevate is more than a class; Elevate is an experience. Whenever we are having trouble or just want to talk, our teachers will be there to support. Elevate helped me learn that my actions can help me long term. The way I do things can help other people and my surroundings get better too. This is more than a class, it’s like a family to me. We have each others’ backs. So I just want to say thanks Elevate family!”
“When I took Elevate my junior year, we had the privilege to teach a group of fourth graders at School #74. Teaching about character and life skills gave me a chance to help others learn how life can treat you. I love working with kids, so teaching was a wonderful experience! My Elevate teachers have always been helpful, not only to me, but to the Elevate community. I can say that since I’ve been in Elevate it’s grown me personally, emotionally, and spiritually.”
